| The paper is intended to deal with the current problem that typical high school students of English fail to take the initiative in studying because of traditional teaching methods which put too much emphasis on test scores, which leads to most of students adopt surface learning approaches related to English proficiency negatively, instead of taking deep learning approaches related to English proficiency positively, and as a result of dull classes, teachers dislike teaching and students hate studying.Based on the current curriculum theory, this study has been conducted to explore EFL teaching methods of motivating high school students in their learning of English, the aim of which is to help students to learn about the value and importance of what they are learning, and enjoy the course of learning, and meanwhile, to enable teachers to find teaching enjoyable, so that mutual progress can be made between teachers and students in the interactive process of teaching and learning, which is in accordance with the current curriculum theory.In terms of psychology, knowledge, interaction and practice in life etc, the study is performed to explore the potential interest of knowledge, emotion, practice and culture by probing into the teaching of vocabulary, sentences, passages and their translation and so on. EFL teaching methods of motivating students are explored in this paper, such as playing word game between the teacher and their students, learning patterns of sentences with the help of the teacher or each other, imitating the life situations, sending emails and writing blogs and so on. In doing so, the author places stresses on how to motivate students to learn English by adopting some teaching methods, which can embody the students' initiative in learning English, teachers'humanistic concern in class, the intention of studying for life and the cultivation of qualified people in society as the current curriculum theory is discussed.During the study, in Shanghai Zhongyuan Senior High School, in which the author works, some questionnaires and individual interviews have been used to help this study and exploration of EFL teaching methods of motivating students to involve not only in the change of EFL teaching methods, but also in the alteration of ideas and concepts. Teachers there are encouraged to show humanistic care to students about their mental health, personal growth as well as academic development. Pluralism is much appreciated there and is embodied in their exploration for new teaching methods.In addition to what is mentioned above, the principles and laws of teaching are discussed and the functions of how teachers and students should act in classroom are examined in the study, and the findings of it have convinced the author that teachers should study current curriculum theory, refresh their thinking so as to find out new teaching methods of motivating students in line with the social, economic and political reform that is going on. |
