Objective:Foreign body aspiration is one of the most common pediatric airway emergencies. Traditional diagnostic method estimate the possibility of the disease by observing the movement of mediastina under X-ray. To this day, this method is still one of the diagnostic standard in textbook. But now, more accurate tomography imaging technologies emerge ceaselessly with the advancing of science and technology and the popularity of modern facility. Three-dimensional reconstruction and postprocessing techniques of multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT) is one of them. In this article, we analysed MSCT and common X-ray in clinical guidable, treatment acceptable, economical benefit, dose of radiotherapy, etc, in order to find the best selection for diagnose an case of illness. Methods:353 children from outpatient department and emergency department who were suspected of foreign body aspiration were given common X-ray examination and the state of illness was explained to their parents. The choose of the parents that whether their child should accept bronchoscopic examination were recorded. Then introduced the good and bad of MSCT examination to the parents whom refused operation. Recorded whether the parents accepted it. Among the children whose parents chose MSCT,91 children were diagnosed foreign body in trachea or bronchus, we contrast their diagnoses with bronchoscopic examination.. To the children who were diagnosed of other disease, check the result after 1 month by phone. All cases were contrast with 2647 cases that being bronchoscopic examined after only common X-ray examination to find the difference in clinical guidable, treatment acceptable, societal benefit, economical benefit and dose of radiotherapy, in order to find the best selection for diagnose an case of illness. Result:MSCT has the superiority on clinical guidable and treatment acceptable to common X-ray, and it also has the superiority on total economical benefit if the case was selected properly, but it has the defect of more dose of radiotherapy. From the study we can find, when the child didn't has aspiration history, it's the best time to select MSCT examination for diagnosis Conclusion:To children who were suspected of foreign body aspiration and had aspiration history, lower respiration, mediastinal contradictory movement under X-ray, we do not advise MSCT examination. But we recommend this method when the chid didn't has aspiration history or in conditions that parents might have wrong selection. So, the candidacy we suggest is:1.The case which was suspected of foreign body aspiration but didn't has aspiration history.2.In conditions that parents would refuse operation and might have wrong selection3.In conditions that the child has aspiration history but we can't find other evidence to prove it. (including the case that need examined again after operation)4.Examination before operation in special case of illness.
