Partâ… Association between plasma uric acid levels and carotid atherosclerosis in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndromeObjective To investigate the association between the condition and plasma uric acid(UA) levels and carotid atherosclerosis in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS). Methods 64 patients with OSAHS were diagnosed using polysomnography(PSG) and divided into OSAHS mild sub-group(20cases), moderate sub-group(22cases), and severe sub-group(22cases) according to Apnea Hypopnea Index(AHI). The plasma UA level was tested and the carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) was measured by color Doppler ultrasonography. The results were compared with 20 normal controls. Results The plasma UA level in OSAHS group was higher than in the normal control group; Moreover, there were the significant difference among each OSAHS sub-groups(all P<0.01). The carotid IMT in OSAHS severe sub-group was significantly greater than normal control group and mild OSAHS sub-group(all P<0.01). The plasma UA level in OSAHS group was positively correlated with carotid IMT, AHI(r=0.746,r=0.798) and negatively correlated with lowest SpO2 during sleep(r=-0.754)(all P<0.01). Conclusion The carotid IMT and plasma UA level in patients with OSAHS were significantly increased and which can reflect the condition of OSAHS. Partâ…¡Clinical Research on the Relationship between Obstructive Sleep Apnea-Hypopnea Syndrome and Carotid, Lower Limb Atherosclerotic PlaquesObjective To study the relationship between the carotid, lower limb atherosclerotic plaques and obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS). Methods One hundred and ten patients with OSAHS were diagnosed using polysomnography(PSG) and then divided into mild(n=36), moderate(n=38), and severe OSAHS group(n=36), thirty six healthy subjects were selected as the control group, their carotid and lower limb artery were measured by color Doppler ultrasonography. Results The incidence of atherosclerotic plaques in OSAHS patients was obviously higher than control group(P<0.05), and was correlated with the severity. Conclusion OSAHS plays an independent role in atherosclerosis progression.
