With the rapid social and economic development, stricter demand has been put on the stability and reliability of power system. Traditional coordination and control of hydropower station which relies on manual control and simple automatic system has been lagging behind. This paper raises the idea of refurbishing automatic control system of hydropower stations through the design and realization of a computer-monitoring system and through its application in hydropower stations.At present, Shafan hydropower station which has been one of the main peak-adjusting stations of Jinhua power grid, is the best power supply for"black start"after the breakdown of the whole system (a hypothetic situation). The administrating unit of the station plans to apply computer-monitoring system in the station. This paper takes Shafan hydropower station as an example to investigate the current situation of the commonly utilized control and protection system for SHP stations, analyze the principal features and functions of the current automatic control system, pin existing problems and aspects to be improved, and further study the application of computer monitoring system in the technical refurbishment of hydropower station.Technical refurbishment aims to achieve automation of dispatching and utilize economical mode for management through the realization of an unattended and few-on-duty station so as to harvest a better economic return.
