Earth Tectonics

The tectonics of earth is a traditional and ancient technique comprising a great deal of fork building wisdom.Though a deep investigation of rammed-earth buildings in Zhejiang province, the thesis intend to gain a clear idea of this old technique. The research gives prominence to three main way of using earth, they are mould board building, rafter building, and earthen brick building. The thesis studied different conditions of building materials, processes, cave patterns and foundations, in order to make its first part a handbook of earth building craft to emphasize the availability of earth.By phenomenal descriptions of rural sites, analysis of contemporary earth building examples, and discussion of Architecture practice, the later part of the thesis explored the possibility of the utilization of earth in nowadays Architecture area.
