"Either an invention of new materials or a new thinking on old materials’, is a turning point in architecture evolution, suggesting the possibility of new forms coming into reality."As the progress of civilization in human history, brick material has created numerous structural and technological marvel, but with the development of new materials, construction and other technical factors, as well as that of human factors like social structure, brick building came into a silence when reinforced concrete architectures boomed. Despite the brick material gradually technically degraded into filler of framework, but only a few decades later, brick building regained its vitality. That is what this paper focuses on and brought up - why brick buildings revived in the contemporary era? How is brick buildings’contemporary expression distinguished from the glorious history before? What is the real structure hide behind such a wonderful surface?To answer the questions, this paper attempts to express the necessity, foundation and source of them, with the two perspectives of contemporary analysis and history review, through comparison among the glorious history, silence times, and the contemporary revival of brick buildings at different stages of expression and the objective and subjective causes. While we trying to Vertical comb the bricks’development process, analysis of the causes of these phenomenon, this paper focus on explaining contemporary revival of the brick building. by analyzing and summarizing the value and properties of contemporary brick buildings, this paper explains the underlying causes of the brick building’s contemporary revival, and also summarize the tendency of contemporary brick building performance according to different values of the brick. Finally, through the phenomenon, this paper try to gain the insight of solid support behind the expression - the superficial construction methods, and depending on the performance brick buildings we can arrive at a conclusion-a typical construction method.Although the revival of contemporary brick building is no longer a revival of the brick structure, today’s materials and construction, computer technology is already rich enough to support architects’imagination and realize the exaggerated expression. But as for detail performance and structural design of brick buildings still need us making persistent efforts to conditions for the stance.
