With the running short of energy throughout the world, building energy conservation has become increasingly important and has arose the interest of many researchers at home and abroad. So, it's necessary to consider energy conservation in designing buildings. Steam-power plant has the characteristic of high heat flux and ventilation flux, and contains exothermic equipments, such as condenser, heat exchanger, pipes, etc. The ventilation system is very important of energy conservation, optimized ventilation system has a positive effect on energy conservation. Empirically based techniques have now been used for many years in designing the ventilation system of large space buildings, although it works to certain extent, the ventilation system thus designed is not the most optimized scheme. This thesis summarizes and analyzes the basic situation of the building energy conservation, and then outlines a method for the optimization of ventilation system design using airflow modeling techniques called computational fluid dynamics (CFD).The work presented in this thesis is based on an actual project. The geometrical model set up by the professional software—Pro/Engineer and the meshes was created by Gambit. On the basis of the analysis of the turbulence model, radiation model and parameters for solutions, the ventilation system of steamer room was simulated and compared with the measured data firstly. The both results well fitted. The structure of the steamer room improved and simulated based on those results and analysis. A sensitivity study was then carried out to assess the effect of optimization strategy.Projects as ventilating with natural convection project and heating with just exhaust fans were simulated and analyzed. A conclusion has been drawn that both of the ventilating and heating projects are feasible and well achieved with the required ventilating or heating effect, and save energy effectively. These jobs provide theory foundation for designing of heating and ventilation system for grand buildings such as the steamer room in a steam-power plant, and have a positive contribution to building energy conservation.
