The mixture of asphalt and filler called asphalt mortar is an adhesive and packing material in asphalt mixture. It has an important influence on asphalt mixture's technical performance. In this paper, the influence of different filler sorts such as limestone dust, cement and hydrated lime, and different rates of filler and asphalt such as 0.6,0.8,1.0 and 1.2 on the asphalt mortars' properties has been studied by way of conventional tests, Dynamic Shear Rheometer(DSR) and Brookfield viscometer. On the basement, analysing some disadvantages of applying conventional tests to evaluating asphalt mortars' properties, a new cone penetration test and a bending test at low temperature used to asphalt mortar are developed. A new evaluation criterion has been brought forward and it is reasonable and effective to evaluate asphalt mortars' properties. Finally, asphalt mortars' microstructure is observed through Scanning Electronic Microscopy(SEM) and Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).
