Asphalt mastic which is formed by asphalt and filler interaction has not only influenced the asphalt mixture structure, but also has a direct impact on the temperature stability, moisture stability and other basic performances. So the bad asphalt and filler interaction is one of important causes to bring distresses to asphalt pavement. This paper studies asphalt and filler interaction based on those problems. And the main research contents as following:Firstly, this paper discussed the relationship between filler volume fraction and filler particulate reinforcement effect, asphalt and filler interaction. And finding that the complex modulus of asphalt mastic has “diluted region” and “concentrated region” with the filler content increase. We defined filler critical volume fraction and proposed reasonable method to confirm it. These works can provide fundamental theories for selecting the range of filler volume fraction to study asphalt/filler interaction. Evaluation models were analyzed in the range of filler critical volume fraction and finded that the K.D.Ziegel-B-G* model is the best to evaluate asphalt/filler interaction.Secondly, this paper studied the effect of experiment conditions on rheological properties of asphalt mastic based on the filler critical volume fraction and K.D.Ziegel-B-G* model. And then, the relationships model between the ability of interaction and temperature, frequency respectively were established to analyze the influence of experiment conditions based on the filler critical volume fraction. The normal experiment conditions were defined to test asphalt/filler interaction.Thirdly, this paper not only analyzed the influence of the materials properties to rheological properties of asphalt mastic but also studied the effect of filler and asphalt characteristics on interaction based on the normal experiment conditions. The contribution of various factors to interaction of asphalt and filler were determined by MANOVA, and the order of various factors as following: filler particle size﹥asphaltene and colloid content﹥filler volume fraction﹥SiO2 content.Finally, this paper analyzed the effect of matrix asphalt aging degree to the asphalt/filler interaction. These results show that the ability of asphalt/filler interaction is worse with the matrix asphalt deeper aging degree. However, the change rate alters at different aging stages.
