Based on 25mm caliber penetrators, this paper highlighted on the research of small caliber full plastic sabot overall design. As a negative part, it is the key region that decreases the sabot mass to amplifying the penetrated power while the sabot launching strength is confirmed. First, the analysis and compare on the mechanical performance of different plastic was put forward, and got the sabot material that could fulfill the overall design demand in this paper. Then, based on Taquchi Method widely used in the quality engineering, the optimization on small caliber full plastic sabot was presented. Later, combined with the research result on composite material sabot, the theoretical analysis and numerical simulation was performed on different teeth structure of full plastic sabot, and the application advantage of trapeziform teeth on the penetrator is obviously. The influence of rear cone angle and sabot structure of sealed part on the sabot internal stress distribution was also numerically analyzed. And the design method that agrees with full plastic sabot characteristic is presented. Last, based on fore theoretical analysis, the optimization on 25mm small caliber full plastic sabot overall structure was achieved, and the strength analysis on the structure got from before optimization was also put forward. Results show that the research method formed in this paper is efficient and credible, and can fulfill the overall design demand of small caliber full plastic sabot.
