Computer-aided Industrial Design Shape Design

This paper stems from the project of National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (Type A), named "Research on Key Technology of 3D Digital Customized Design of Information Domestic Appliances" (No. 2002AA411120), and "a Study of Product Design Process Coupled with Multi-Perception Factors"(No. 50275112), one case of National Natural Science Fund.Based on the methods of form design of Industrial Design (ID), the techniques are proposed of computer-aided form design of ID from such four aspects as layout, scale, linetype and details of product form. The main content concludes:1 A method of dividing upstanding faces in product form based the library of schemes of dividing characteristic rectangle By timely providing schemes of dividing characteristic rectangle, the method inducts designers to design upstanding faces of product form;2 A method of computer-aided scale design of product form; 3 . Algorithms of transforming free curves into cognate curves and generating cognate curves Using the method of geometric transformation, designers make curves of product form be in harmony with each other; 4, Methods of disposing details of product form Take round corner for an example, Algorithms of remedying round corner for visual illusion and of fuzzy setting dig/small round corner based visual impact are proposed.Based on the techniques, a system of compute-aided form design of ID is designed, and a set of tools on form design are planned, and several of them are realized. Finally, the system is successfully integrated on the modeling platform Solid Works, and the tools realized are applied in form design of product. The testing result showed that the system and tools are feasible, and the tools can assistdesigners in form design of product effectively.
