Beam forming is an important part of Sonar, Radar signal processing. It is necessary to develop beam former with high speed, high precision and performance. In this thesis, beam forming algorithm used in underwater acoustic signal processing is discussed. And the algorism is realized with the high speed digital signal processor. The plan of design is given. Selecting VLSI device for use and module design, the systematic is easy to debug and expand. The main content can be summarized as follows:At first, the principle of the sonar is introduced briefly .The expression formula of array manifold and the method of measuring manifold is given. Then the principle of beam forming is introduced and a beam former based on FIR filter is suggested.According to the index of performance and function of the system, the hardware circuit is designed and the realization of the hardware circuit is analyzed. Combining with the software and hardware, systematic real-time character is discussed. The time sequence and software scheme of logic control is studied.At last, the systematic design procedure and the debugging course of the software and hardware is given. The problems encountered in the debug phase are described and some conclusions are given.
