The research develops the Francis turbine type design and characteristic curve drawing software combining the needs of real project. The main functions of this software system are basic data management, characteristic data management, multiple characteristic curve drawing and performance curve drawing.This paper begins with the angle of software development, at the beginning of the paper, the develop method and the develop tools of this software system are briefly introduced. Then, the software and hardware environment of this software system and the mathematics model of characteristic curve of Francis turbine are introduced. Finally, the main part of the software that contains the Francis turbine type design and performance curve drawing is introduced. When the turbine performance curve is drawn by computer and the new type multiple characteristic curve is predicted, various kinds of interpolate method and characteristic data smooth method are introduced in detail. Because of the form of turbine characteristic curve is complicated, if we use the ordinary interpolate method, the computational process is more complicated, and the precision is not high. So in this paper, the interpolate method that is in polar coordinate system is researched. Through verifying the result is better. In the part of predicting the multiple characteristic curve of new type model runner, another kind of new interpolate method is worked out in the paper too. At first, the method calculates the value of optimum operating condition of the new model runner using the data of optimum operating condition of different types of runner. Then, under the polar coordinate system, regard the point of optimum operating condition as the origin of the polar coordinate system; we can get the value of other operating condition. Practice has proved that the method is fast and has high precision. It can meet the need of real project.The software combines with engineering design tightly, adopts orient object method and module structure, this makes development and maintaining the software conveniently. The man-machine interface of the software is friendly and it is convenient for user to grasp. This software has the ability of drawing curves with high speed, high precision, thus, the designer can be liberated from strenuous works.
