The .16-18 Century Sino-french Capital Of Gathering Places A Comparative Study

Recently, the comparison between eastern cities and western cities is one of the focal points. The archaic capitals gradually developed to a perfect phase from 16th century to 18th century. During this period, it was Chinese capital and French capital that were the representations of eastern cities and western cities .The difference between Chinese capital and French capital rests with not only the location, but also the culture that was formed during their development. As an important part of the city space, the meeting place presented differently. In modern times, the cities in eastern and western are more and more similar, and their characters are dying away. For this reason, it is important to realize the setting characters of Beijing and Paris and this will be useful to arrange the meeting places correctly and keep our cities' characteristic.The pattern of city space in Chinese capital and French capital presented differently. We think, behind the appearance ,there is something important that can determine the pattern of city space. That is constitution and use of city power. It can also affect the social life order. These two factors decide the pattern of city space. As an important part of city space, the meeting places are affected by these two factors. So from the point of interacting pattern of constitution and use of city power, social life order and the meeting places ,the paper studies the differences between Beijing's meeting places and Paris'.According to difference of the main behavior, we can divided the meeting places into four kinds: the political meeting place, the religion meeting place, the commercial meeting place and else. Firstly, the paper analyses eadh kind of the meeting places, mainly including the composing factors, the relationship between the factors and the location, and so on. Through these analysis , the paper compares each kind of the meeting places from concept evaluation and existing manner. At last, the paper compares the meeting place as a whole, including the order of the meeting places' setting, the relationship between these meeting places and the public character, and so on.From these analysis, we find that in Beijing the state power takes up the dominant role, but in Paris the constitution of the city power is more complex. So, the city space presented more differently.By reason of the evaluation about the meeting places, we believe that in our city the dominant space should be not only the symbol of the city but also the correlation between the public interest and the whole city spirit. This is the basic demand and important content in our city planning and urban design.
