At present microprocessor relay protection has been used widely in the power system at home and abroad, and it is an inevitably developing trend that the microprocessor relay protection equipments replace the routine relay protection equipments. However the execution situation of the experiment and training of microprocessor relay protection of the colleges and universities at home and vast power users lags obviously behind the situation of popularization and application of microprocessor relay protection in the project site. There are scarce kinds of microprocessor relay protection experimental or training equipment in existence whose function is single, price is expensive, bulk is huge, and practicability is poor.A set of economical and practicable experimental and training system for the multifunction microprocessor relay protection and substation integrated automation which meets the case of project site highly was developed based on the reference of a great deal documents and on the research of many existing systems, combining the characteristics of microprocessor relay protection experiment and training. In the paper, theories and functions of the whole system are introduced, the typical theories and algorithms of relay protection employed in the system are lucubrated, the configuration of relay protections is researched, the demonstration constitution schemes are determined, the PSD remote program upgrading method based on 80C196KC is provided, the relay protection software is designed based modular structure and in which the technologies of PTS data transmission and the LCD multilevel menus which contain Chinese characters and graphs are adopted, a configuration software design method is provided for adapting the need of training of different structure of substations, and a set of teaching, experimental and training software which has good teaching effects and has innovation to some extent is designed.The experimental and training system integrates many kinds of microprocessor relay protection and the substation integrated automation experimental and training functions into a union, which has the characteristics of complete functions, simple manipulation, friendly interface, diversified communication manner, and configuringthe substation structure flexibly. It is a kind of initial high-tech teaching, experimental and training equipment at home. The experimental results indicate that each performance figure has reached the design command. If the system is popularized in colleges, universities and in power system, it can enhance the technology level of students and trainee, and can bring good economic and social benefits.
