The 300mm X 300mm magnetic suspension and balance system(MSBS) was successfullydeveloped in China recently. Taking the MSBS as background, this paper focused on the researches on the calibration and aerodynamic measurement of this system. As part of the MSBS development project, the paper studied the static calibration of MSBS in detail. At first, the introduction introduced the research background, including the state-of-the-art of MSBS and the basic structure of its software and hardware. Whereafter, the next two chapters studied the system's static calibration in detail. In chapter two, the paper discussed the classification of MSBS calibration, devices for static calibration, loading method of weight, mathematicdescription of calibration relationship and test reparation. In chapter three, the paper discussed thedifferent aspects of MSBS static calibration, including operation method of single-mode calibration test, the test design and implement process of multi-mode calibration, the pre-treatment of sample data and traditional solutions to calibration relationship. According to the practical running data of the system, chapter three proposed a spline fitting scheme for the static calibration model in order to overcome the deficiency of the traditional solutions. This scheme is a mixture of principal component analysis method and nonlineal spline fitting method. Meanwhile, chapter three compared several calibration schemes by using practical test data, and the fitting results showed that the proposed scheme did improve the accuracy of calibration relationship. Finally, a complete technical report on MSBS static calibration and measurement using actual test data was attached to the paper in appendix. After the project was accomplished, the paper continued to research on the problem of MSBS calibration. Chapter four proposed the basic criteria to evaluate the accuracy and precision of static calibration, analysed the error sources of static calibration, and then presented the corresponding correct methods. Among the error sources, the paper focused on the force source error and its correction. Chapter five discussed other aspects of the calibration, including the calibration of MSBS when model is suspended at arbitrary attitude, the dynamic calibration of MSBS, and the position and attitude measurement of model. Finally, the paper pointed out unsolved problems in this MSBS in view of calibration, and prospected its future development.
