A Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) is a kind of widely used, highly automated measuring machine with high accuracy and efficiency. The mainly used field are advanced manufacture and science research. The project is sponsored by Ma'anshan Steel & Iron Ltd. to develop a specialized multidimensional coordinate measuring machine for the size-measuring of the I-steel crystallization device. The abrasion of inside the crystallization device can be measured periodically, so the quality of semifinished steel can be ensured.The paper analyzes the sources of error which influence the precision of the measuring machine by analyzing the structure, measuring theory and measuring system. It mainly contains indication error of lead screw, error of Abbe, error of perpendicularity, error of the probe detecting and locating, error of distortion of the beam and mast, temperature error, and error of software and so on. The main errors are allocated and a plan for error calibrating is put forward. The indication error, pitch error and yaw error are calibrated by the existent condition of lab. The software of data processing is based on the interpolation theory of cubic spline. The discrete data are fitted to the smooth curves. We analyze influence of the position of the beam in Z axis to X axis and Y axis and the correlation with three axes. The indicating error data are processed and corrected by the error model, comparing to being corrected before. The experiment indicates that it can improve measurement accuracy of the CMM by calibrating errors and correcting errors.
