Enlightment On The Metaphysical View Of Landscape In Wei And Jin Gardening And Its Modern Value

In Wei and Jin dynasties, the aesthetic trend of landscape gains so much attention that scholars excavated deeply into this field and formed the landscape culture. The landscape culture which consisted of the most representative part of traditional Chinese culture and art was inherited and developed by the next generations. It is no coincidence that both Metaphysics and Landscape Garden, the two China-unique cultures appeared in Wei and Jin Dynasties. Metaphysics in Wei and Jin dynasties is closely related to the formation of Chinese ancient aesthetic trend in natural landscape, emergence of basic style of special natural landscape in traditional gardens, and the generation of the artistic conception which was combined with scenery and emotions. In light of this connection, this paper makes a comprehensive and profound analysis of the relation ship between them, explores the contemporary value on the requirements of modern scholars.The aesthetic trend of landscape goes into the self-conscience stage because of the chaos in the political circle and Strong desire of scholars to return to the natural world. Landscape which was free form the mystery, vanity and background dependence became an independent esthetic and creative objective in literature and art works, promoting the development and booming of landscape culture.Metaphysics, a product of the time which accepted the Confucianism and Taoist, provided an ideal base and practical place where Wei and Jin scholars who were in a dilemmatic life sought physiological and mental shelter. A close relationship can be forged between gardens and metaphysics, by holding metaphysics assemblies in the gardens, composing m-language poems about landscape and gardens, and constructing gardens for the scholars. The interred associations Natural beauty, flexible spiritual beauty and emotional beauty were externalized as wild, emotional and elegant artistic features which exerted a further influence on post-gardening development. These features above are embodied to some extent, in the Lan Pavilion, a typical wildcarding in Wei and Jin dynasties.The deterioration of environment and the spread of the "City Disease", leading to unbalance on body and mental of contemporary scholars.
