With the vehicle and highway substantial increase in recent years, problems of vehicle management and traffic accident are more and more. The main reason of traffic accident is caused by speeding, there are several speed monitoring methods such as ground induction coil, wave frequency, video, laser, radar etc. But these methods have disadvantages such as passive, hysteresis, non-transparent, non-early-warning. Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a kind of non-touching automatic identifying technology, it has many advantages involving environmental adaptability, speed, long distance and security, now it is used widely in the fields of data collection and identification. A new method which can realize real-time speed collection, data wireless transmission, intelligent early-warning was designed based on radio frequency identification.The vehicle speed was collected by speed sensor, and sent to the microcontroller for data processing and achieved convert, then send to the electronic tag by serial port. Readers were installed in gantry rack along the road, the limited speed, front road conditions and other information of the major sections were sent by readers to the sensor-tag system through wireless data transmission, when the vehicle drives over the limited speed, it can voice and light alarm to the driver. The vehicle identity and actual speed were transmitted to the control center by readers connectd with network. The main research works are as follows:1. For the system functional requirements, the overall program of the speed intelligent monitoring system for vehicles was proposed based on radio frequency identification after analyzing the traditional vehicle identification technology and speed monitoring technology.2. From the system design view, miniaturization, low power, low cost, high reliability, the electronic components were compared, analyzed and selected. The hardware systems including speed collection and processing module, speed intelligent early warning module, electronic tag module, reader module, base station module and control center module were designed by using modulization method.3. The system function softwares were designed according to the requirements of stability, reliability, convenience, these include wireless data communication protocols and procedures for design, the sensor-tag program, host computer monitoring software etc.4. To analyze the performance parameters of the intelligent monitoring system, the experimental facility was designed, these properties including calibration of hall sensor, wireless data transmission, stability and integration testing. The experiment results that the system can identify vehicles more than 70 meters and maximum speed around 168km/h, the data transmission error rate is less than 5%.It is a simple, stable and reliable monitoring system, and it will play an important role in enhancing the efficiency and safety of the transportation system. It can provide a new technology and method for vehicle intelligent monitoring and road management.
