Costume and sex are particular cultural phenomenon in the human society. This paper aims to give a profound research in the relations between dressing and sexual cultures on the basis of social environments, trying to apply the methods of arguments and evidences to the reflections of human nature's rations and emotions, analyze the primitive dressing situations and combine the historical background as well as dressing characteristics of China and western countries in various periods.During the human childhood, the function and the aesthetic of costume are of one, with clothing and temptation constituting mainly the two functions of a dress. As for other functions, such as religion, ethics, systems, etc., are all based on these two functions. The latter has established a deep connection with the sexual culture and custom. "Sexual taboos" is a mark of human nature by changing the culture of sexual instinct. Then costumes would no longer function as protections to body. From the culture, customs point of view, the beauty of dress is between "covered" and "uncovered". In this way, dress exists as a balance in their contradictions and in the emotional and rational conflicts. It began to be a socially acceptable moral progressively by people, and became a symbol of human rational foreign performance.Although information even recovery of the state of dress ca be gathered from the ancient records, painting and archaeological materials, dress as a cultural phenomenon should be interpreted from a number of dimensions plus applications of multi-disciplinary knowledge. For this prospective, not only the identification of people to define gender roles in various costumes or costumes appearance message is necessary, but at the same time the exploration of the nature of gender relations is of great essential. Once consulting the history, we can find costumes, attached less significance in men's fashions than in women's, which is ongoing and varied. We would be eager to ask, why is the increasing significance of the men's dress becoming simpler and simpler, however women's dress sense more and more complicated? When people enter a patriarchal society, women became a vassal under men's rule, which is a product of history and social evolution. As more and more women are deprived of social power to be retained in the natural powers (gender roles), in a secondary position, the standard of female beauty enacted by men. And the conflict between sense and sensibility is mainly from the primary location of men. While dress also makes people become emotional needs, especially women realize that their "sex" is an important characteristic form of attraction. At last, the covered and uncovered dress among the main concerns of women as secondary interventions embodied in the clothing culture. It is dress that leads women into enjoyable beauty carrier in the male-dominated society.Chinese and western costumes, on the starting point of view, have similar experiences; however in the subsequent development they have made different choices. Retrospections in western history gave us a hint that dressing choices between "covered" and "uncovered", positives and negatives on physical body have been constant conflicts, thus western fashion history is essentially a constant historical struggle of rations against emotions. Comparatively, Dress in Confucian China, selected a complementary Road "Gentle" and "back to nature" of the same co-existence. These two different routes could find answer in the article "Confucianism, Taoism and Apollo. Dionysus," (by Chen Yan) which proposed psychological structure of the two nations. The relationship between dress beauty and sexual culture shows differently in different social patterns such as the primitive society, the civil society, the parent society, the patriarchal society, classical and modern societies, modern and post-modern society and so on. These differences demonstrate the colorful history of costumes beauty. China, as a country in modern society, the same time pays aesthetic attention to the traditional culture must not neglect the injections of modern aesthetic ideas, taking the overall balanced road so as to make Chinese costumes unique in the world.
