Analysis On The Application Of Southeast Chongqing Tujia Minority’s Traditional Patterns In Clothing Design

The Tujia traditional patterns have a long history. The Tujia group in Southeast Chongqing takes in the advantages of other ethnic culture and develops their own unique patterns. The Tujia patterns boast the unique ethnic style and strong primitive local flavor. Under the background of the assimilation of modern lifestyle and gradual disappearance of ethnic culture diversity, the traditional Tujia customs are gradually out of people’s daily life and the traditional Tujia costume has been under disappearance. Therefore how to protect and develop Tujia traditional culture is a problem urgently to be solved at present.Chinese Tujia settlements are mainly distributed in Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, Chongqing, adjacent to the Wuling Mountains. Tujia pattern condensed the wisdom of Tujia Minority, and shows Tujia people’s different emotional needs and aesthetic psychology. Currently, the overall study on the application of the traditional Tujia patterns nationwide is too hard to take into operation. So the paper selects the southeast of Chongqing, a typical Tujia ethnic culture area as specific research object. Via the filed visits to the Shizhu and Youyang in Southeast Chongqing and even the Xiangxi in Hunan province and the Enshi in Hubei province, the author examines the current situation of the application of Tujia traditional costumes in Southeast Chongqing, finds out the existing problems of the application in modern design, creatively adopts the theories of ethnology and art, excavates Tujia pattern color, style, and its unique technology, summarizes the history of Tujia patterns and structure features and shape features in its each period, and then creates new patterns out of traditional Tujia culture.Firstly the author certificates that Tujia traditional patterns play an important part in the Tujia art inheritance and development and puts forward specific measures to promote Tujia culture, based on the deep study of Tujia traditional costumes in Southeast Chongqing. Secondly through the investigation and analysis of the overall style of the Tujia costumes in Southeast Chongqing, it further puts forward the standard requirements on the application of Tujia traditional costumes in clothing design. On the basis of correct understanding of the traditional Tujia ethnic culture, the Tujia ethnic patterns can be introduced into modern design as elements. Via exploring the combination methods of traditional ethnic culture and modern design, the form or colors of Tujia patterns can be integrated into the modern clothing art design by indirectly application or recreation. Analysis on the reasons why the Tujia traditional culture is disappearing can help find methods to promote the design and creation based on the Tujia ethnic culture.The paper studies on the combination of Tujia ethnicity and modern society, seek for the sources of national characteristics design and the methods to the integration with modern aesthetics and transformation to the useful elements of modern design, in order to solve the issues of realizing the transformation of traditional ethnic culture to the modern aesthetics. From the perspective of coming forward the national traditional culture, Tujia traditional pattern should be combined with clothing design, and further prompting the adoption of profound Chinese traditional connotation in national clothing pattern design. From the perspective of a deeper cultural connotation of protection and inheritance of unique Tujia ethnic cultural heritage, the traditional ethnic culture is no longer just for a simple inheritance, and contemporary design needs to extract the essence,and then to reactive for consistent with modern aesthetic,and therefore providing a broader think tank for the design of modern textile and apparel accessories.
