With the development of technology, a variety of high-tech industries are produced andapplied to various related fields. Virtual reality technology is a new multi-disciplinary technologyin computer field. It is a hotspot in the research of computer simulation at home and abroad, involving many areas of development and application, greatly enriching our lives. Our research isrelated to the knowledge of carbon fiber and its production process, three-dimensional modelingtechniques and virtual reality technology. In this thesis, virtual reality technology is applied to theindustrial control of carbon fiber production process, allowing the users to observe andmonitor carbon fiber production process immersively. On the one hand, this research is aninnovation to the traditional monitoring method of industrial processes. On the other hand, it is anexploration of the application of virtual reality technology to the presentation and control ofindustrial processes. This research could make people’s understanding for industrial processes ofcarbon fiber deeper, and also make foundations for the application of virtual technologies in otherindustrial processes and life situations. In this thesis, the production process of carbon fiber is studied, the three-dimensional modelsof part of the production process of carbon fiber are constructed, which show the devices asrealistic as possible, and then the motion control design of main production unit of carbon fiber iscompleted to achieve good man-machine interaction function. First, the information on theproduction process and equipments of carbon fiber are collected and analyzed, and hence thefunctions of the production process of carbon fiber and each process are known. Some tools forthe three-dimensional virtual simulation are chosen, which includes the modeling software and thevirtual reality software. Second, based on the actual production unit of carbon fiber and Harper’sMicroline system of carbon fiber, each virtual production equipment model is built with3DS Maxas realistic as possible. Third, each production equipment model which has been completed isimported into Unity3D with the use of plug-ins and the motion control design of some features ofthe production unit is completed. Finally, the virtual models of various parts of the production process equipment are imported into the same scene, so that they can form a whole to completethree-dimensional virtual monitoring of the entire carbon fiber production process givenappropriate codes. At end of this thesis, a summarized review of the main work is made, and theinadequacies and the further research are proposed.
