Curriculum arrangements are the core of the whole teaching program, whether its content of curriculum is abundant, whether its design is rational and whether its implementation is right will directly influenced the effect of professional training, which is one of the factors that restrains the development of our safety science. With the development of safety science and technology in China, safety engineering in high education achieves great accomplishments and cultivates outstanding students for our safety production. But contrary to the developed countries, there are still many disadvantages in curriculum designing. This paper explores the experience of safety professional curriculum in American universities, which can provide references for Chinese safety curriculum. This paper exactly proceeds from structure and contents of professional safety curriculum, and through gathering and sorting out of information, makes a comprehensive and systematic comparative analysis about the object, structure and content of curriculum and the implementation of the content at different angles. Based on the above result data, The advantages and disadvantages of the curriculum between the two countries is concluded, aiming to find the universal rules of course construction for professional safety and optimize the professional safety curriculum of China by referencing American experience, according to the status of safety engineering education. The methods of comparative study, literature consultation, case-study, induction are used in the paper. Firstly, the method of comparative analysis is used in the whole. Secondly, with references to various of books and documents, the curriculum in representative schools from both China and American is respectively analyzed, between which the differences are described and analyzed deeply. Finally, the implications about safety engineering curriculum, which is obtained from American, are summarized. The main study contents and conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1) On the base of extensive literature search, the colleges setting the major of safety professions was introduced by way of listing in both China and U.S.A, the distribution of safety professions in both of the countries was contrasted, the higher education of the major of safety engineering in China developped resently, now is in the booming period, but the development of the higher education of the major in U.S.A is relatively mature, the experience of curriculum settings should be referenced.(2)the comparative analysis was made in areas such as enrollment targets and the academic, professional settings, research, training and employment objectives in the colleges setting safety professions in both of China and USA.(3) By making a comparative analysis about the characteristics of curriculum content beween Chinese and American university, the difference in professional safety curriculum between the two countrys can be obtained。And by analyzing the weight of general courses professional major courses, professional elective courses and intern courses, the difference about the weight of those courses between the two countrys can be concluded。Finally by constructing the comprehensive evaluation index system of curriculum designing and adopting qualitative and quantitative indices, the level of curriculum designing was evaluated, and the difference about the characteristics and implementation process of every professional safety curriculum is obtained between China and American.(4) In view of the problems existing in curriculum setting of majot of safety engineering, relevant recommendations were made.
