This paper investigated the actuality, nearby countries and the landuse of the Ming Great Wall in Beijing, which have been carried out by utilizing the computer remote sensing automatic interpretation, manual remote sensing interpretation and geographical correlation analysis method. We divided the Ming Great Wall into 87 parts by its natural subsections, and then established the level standard of Great Wall which was destroyed through the interpretation. After this we marked off the 87 parts of the Great Wall according to the standard. Compared with the data 20 years ago, we researched the areas and the characteristics of the destroyed parts, then set up the module of buffer for the Ming Great Wall in Beijing. In the last part of the paper we brought out the countermeasure for protecting the Great Wall.Researched the Ming Great Wall with the different periods of remote sensing data, it showed that the whole length of the Ming Great Wall in Beijing is 368 Km. It arranges in the east of Pinggu, the east and north of Miyun, the middle of Huairou, the most part of Yanqing, the north of Changping and the north of Mentougou. It traverses 31 towns, 79 villages. The average height of the Ming Great Wall is about 667m, and its average slope is 27 degree. There are forest, spinney, open woodland, plough field, grass and rock around the Great Wall.Analyzed the destroyed Ming Great Wall, it showed that only about 13% of the wall is good-reserved; 51% of the wall is damaged; 36% of the wall is badly damaged. There is one third of the Ming Great Wall, which is 116Km was badly damaged from 1984 to 2004. We have found out the characteristic of the broken wall which was damaged by people. This provided the bases for the buffer module.Based on the human factor, we found out the influencing factor for dividing the buffer, and then we established the buffer module of the Ming Great Wall. According to the fact of the Ming Great Wall, we set up the different radium buffer. It will provide help for the decision-making of the Ming Great Wall protection and management.
