The Distribution of Butterflies (Lepidoptera:Rhopalocera) and the Analysis of Fauna in Jiangsu Province have been studied since 1999 . According to identification of about 4500 specimens of butterflies, 178 species of butterflies are obtained in Jiangsu Province, all the species are classfied in 10 families and in 105 genus. These are Papilionidae 9 genus and 20 species, Parnassiidae 1 genus and 1 species, Pieridae 7 genus and 17 species, Danaidae 2 genus and 2 species, Satyridae 11 genus and 23 species, Nymphalidae 27 genus and 42 species, Acraeidae 1 genus and 1 species, Libytheidae 1 genus and 1 species, Lycaenidae 22 genus and 34 species,Hesperiidae 24 genus and 37 species respectively. Among the 178 species, 45 species are new records in Jiangsu Province. The result of a series analysises shows that the percentages of Oriental species, Palearctic species and widely distributive species are 49.44%, 13.48% and 37.08% seperately. From Latitude 31°N to 3°N, the distribution of butterflies and the faunal composition in the 6 different low mountains are studied, and the similarity among them are also analysed. The conclusion is that there is a ecotone between Palaearctic and Indomalayan region in the eastern of China, the southern bordery of Palaearctic region lies by the Huaihe river, the northern bordery of Indomalayan region lies by the Yangtze river. Among the 6 low mountains of Jiangsu Province, the Fangshan low mountain area is obviously important to the northern bordery of the ecotone and so is the Ningzhen low moutain to the southern bordery of it. In the Xiangshan low mountain area by the north of Fangshan low mountain area, the widely distributive species (48.39%) and Palearctic species (29.03%) are the dominants. On the other wise, in the Yili low mountain area by the south of Ningzhen low moutain area, the Oriental species (59.52%) and the widely distributive species (33.34%) are the dominants.
