A Study On Inter-Industry Worker Income In Shanxi Province

China has achieved spectacular economic growth and the living standards of her people have improved markedly since the economic structure reform began. However, in the mean time the income gap was expanded constantly due to many factors, restricted the lasting, fast, coordinated development of national economy to a certain extent. According to the proposal submitted by Jiu San Society in 2010, the Gini coefficient (one way to measure income inequality) has risen to 0.46, which is far beyond the worldwide accepted warning value 0.4. The excessively wide gap has such a huge psychological impact on the low income bracket that there are more and more miso-affluence mental problems and law and order in our society are threatened. Therefore, it is of great significance to tackle the excessively wide gap problem to keep rapid, continuous, steady development of social economy.The income gap in Shanxi Province is continuously expanded, including the income gap compared with the national level, individual income gap, the income gap between urban and rural areas, the income gap between different regions and the inter-industry income gap. In this situation, a study on the inter-industry income gap in Shanxi Province has been made in this paper, using the data of inter-industry average annual wage of workers.The major work of this paper is as follows.Firstly, based on the analysis on the relevant data in China Statistical Yearbook and Shanxi Province Statistical Yearbook published since 1985, the changes of the income gap are studied from the following aspects: the inter-industry income gap, the changes of the ranks of the inter-industry income, the income difference between industries and professions, the typical professions income, the income gap between workers embraced the same profession but different ownership, the income gap in the same industry between Shanxi Province and other Provinces and the trends of inter-industry income gap. The active significances and passive influences of the income gap expansion on the economic development are represented.Secondly, the reasons that make the generation and expansion of inter-industry income gap in Shanxi Province are analyzed, including the economic structure transformation, the reform of income apportioning system, stages of economic development in Shanxi Province, trade monopolies, unbalanced development of inter-industry and inter-industry education levels.Finally, some suggestion is presented according to the reasons that caused the income gap expansion and the economical characteristics in Shanxi Province. It is pointed in this paper that the government should tighten and improve macroeconomic control to constrain the continuously expanding income gap. Increases in workers wages in Shanxi Province should typically keep pace with increases in GDP. Promoting the coordinating development of inter-industry can reduce the inter-industry income gap to some extent. The control over the allocation of the income in monopolized enterprises should be strengthened. The government should promote fair competition among enterprises of different types of ownership and guide the healthy development of the non-public sector. Moreover, the education input should be increased continuously.
