With China's accelerated urbanization process, urban transport problems become increasingly serious. Due to the advantages of rapid, convenient, large-capacity, environmental protection, urban rail transit becomes the first choice for each city's construction of urban public transport. However, due to massive investment of urban rail transit project and single income from limited fare price, every operating company suffers general loss and the local government is compelled to give financial assistance with its increased burden.In order to meet the needs of Shanghai World Expo 2010, the city concentrates on building of urban rail transit projects. With the massive operation of constructed lines, the operating pressure of Shanghai Shentong Metro Group will rapidly increase and it is difficulty to sustain by government investment and government subsidies. It needs explore the sustainable development method which can maintain self-virtuous circle, to ensure stability and long-term income, efficiently control comprehensive cost containing construction and operating cost and accomplish stable revenue and development. This is very important and realistic to Shanghai Shentong Metro Group.Based on sufficient analysis to the good experience from some city's urban rail transit development, research of sustainable development theory and project strategic management, existed problems in the concentrated building process of Shanghai urban rail transit and special situation of transferring to concentrated operation, this article systematically issues the sustainable development strategy of Shanghai Shentong Metro Group and the detailed strategy suggestion with business strategy, organization, plan, finance, construction, operation, technology innovation, human resource and performance indicator, to provide reference for the sustainable development of Shanghai Shentong Metro Group.
