Service industry is an increasingly important sector in development of economies around the world. In developed countries, service industy has been an dominant strength, while it has also been accounted for half of the entire economy in developing countries. As for Inner Mongolia, service industry is growing rapidly as well. Based on relative theories of regional economics, this thesis analyses the pattern of service industry in Inner Mongolia in both theoretical and empirical metheds. The development of service industry was based upon the dramatic growth of industry in Inner Mongolia. A case in point is that service industry is becoming a dominant strength in Hohhot. After analysing the structures of industry, employment and service in Inner Mongolia, this thesis discovered that the development of service is unbalanced and the structure of service industry is unreasonable. At present, traditional service sectors are still predominant. Whereas, modern service sectors such as finance, education and research account for a smaller percentage. Moreover, the development of service is lack of stability. Futher research about the comprehensive competitiveness discovered that Hohhot, Baotou and Hulunbeir are the cities which scorces are above the average, that is zero. This implies that on one hand, most of cities lack for competitiveness, on the other hand, development of service is unbalanced. The reasons behind are that the unbalanced development of industry and lack of coordination among cities. The service in China is booming, meanwhile, the service in Inner Mongolia need to growing, too. To achieve this goal, we have a lot to improve. In the first place, the advantages of developed cities should be used to promote the development of developing cities. Secondly, according to its own advantages in resources, cities in Inner Mongolia should develop selective service sector in order to form complementary services in Inner Mongolia. Through improving its own competitiveness, the competitiveness of Inner Mongolia is increasing as well.
