The Impact Of External Innovation Source On Technology Innovation Performance In SMEs

Innovation is the soul of a country. Small and Medium Enterprises(SMEs) that are the absolute majority of all the enterprises are the most active part of the market economy. The improvement in the ability of Technological Innovation of SMEs is very important for a nation to keep the development of its economy. Chinese SEMs are facing fiercer competition, and the weak innovation capabilities in Chinese SEMs becomes the shackle for the economic development.Focusing on the subject of Open Innovation in SMEs, this paper tries to grope the relationship between the external innovation sources and technologic innovation performance of SMEs.The whole paper is divided into three sections: theoretical discussion, empirical research and study conclusion.In the section of the theoretical discussion, we review the development trend of Open Innovation research. Based on the research of the Technological Innovation of SMEs, external source of innovation and open innovation of international and domestic experts and scholars, the author forms the dominant directing idea of the whole paper and puts forth the corresponding theory hypothesis and research model.In the second part, based on the questionnaire investiation among over 200 SMEs and quantitative analysis, the author concludes 7 fators that influence the Open Innovation of SMEs in terms of user cooperation, inter-firm cooperation, industry and education cooperation and public service platform cooperation. And then further validation of the relationship between these factors is given. We try to find out the key influencing factors and model, which constructs the relationship between the influencing factors and innovation performance. The research goes in two stages: the first stage is expert visiting and literature referring, which tries to find out the status of Open Innovation in SMEs, then forming and validating the tentative idea of the research. The second stage involves questionnaire investigation,case study and results analysis.In the last section, we draw the conclusion of the research and suggest on how to improve Open Innovation in SMEs.
