With the increase in economics and intensifying competition in business world, business model innovation has become the focus of the enterprises, also a greater challenge than ever before. Nowadays, business model innovation has become the effective way to gain the competitive advantages, so business model innovation is a necessary choice for enterprise. Based on the concept framework of mesoscopic approach to business model and the study of business model innovation on the basis of complex system theory, the thesis views the business model innovation as the evolution of business model, analyzes the rules of business model evolution from the point of view of dynamic evolution, and then analyzes the rules of business model innovation.Based on the NK model of business model innovation, the thesis uses Complex Adaptive System and SWARM to establish the evolution models of business model, then analyze the characteristics and the rules of evolution of different complex structure of business model. From the analysis, there are four different kinds of innovation patterns, as follows: Modular Innovation, Architectural Innovation, Radical Innovation and Incremental Innovation. The independent innovation risk increases with the complexity of the business model. When the enterprise is on the process of business innovation, it should measure the innovation benefit and the innovation risk. The analysis from the simulation data indicates that business model fitness increase with the complexity of the business model in general; when the complexity of scale is same, fitness reduce with the increasing complexity of the structure. Complex characteristics provides the innovation space, the complex business model structure has much higher innovation effectiveness. Either independent innovation or imitation innovation, complex characteristics provides the innovation space, but independent innovation has much higher innovation risk, and it also needs much more resource to support the innovation process.
