Research On Co-Evolution Between Enterprise And Environment Based On CAS Theory

Enterprises' sustainable development is not only the unrelenting goal of entrepreneurs and social interest-related people, but also the important issue which management scholar has explored constantly in recent years. This thesis researches enterprises' sustainable development from the point of view of the relation between enterprise and its environment. Essentially speaking, enterprise's CAS characteristic makes it possess the adapting, learning and self-organizing ability like organism. Hence, the thesis discusses that the co-evolution relationship between enterprise and environment, combining CAS theory and co-evolution theory in Ecology. The following some aspects are included as major arguments.In the first two chapters, the feasibility and practice meaning of researching on enterprises' sustainable development based on the relationship between enterprise and environment is illuminated under the background about enterprise questing for sustainable development. After wholly looking back the origin of CAS theory, the definition and the main idea of CAS and its seven characters, the feasibility of introducing CAS into enterprise is analyzed.In the third chapter, the definition of enterprises' environment is firstly identified. After summarizing the existing theories about the relationship between enterprise and environment, the author advances the point concerning the co-evolution between enterprise and its environment, combining the co-evolution theory of interactional species in Ecology. At last, the necessity of research on co-evolution between enterprise and environment based on the CAS theory is analyzed.In chapter 4, the model of the co-evolution between enterprise and environment is put forward following the character of CAS. The necessity and the process of co-evolution are concretely analyzed between enterprise and nature environment, technology environment, society culture environment, economy environment and politic environment, then the author makes detailed analysis about each environment affected enterprises' development and correspondingly suggests some measures and methods.Following the model in chapter 4 and based on the CAS theory, the chapter 5 from the inside of enterprise is mainly studied on the ability of co-evolution between enterprise and environment, including adapting-ability, learning-ability and self-organizing ability. Based on the CAS theory and the analysis of enterprise's character, the co-evolution ability is embodied in organization's aptitude. According to the conclusion mentioned above, the thesis put forward the countermeasure and tactic to improve the co-evolution ability.According to the theory and methods mentioned above, in last chapter the thesis makes an analysis with Lenovo Group as an example. Firstly, the brief developing history of Group is introduced, based on that its complex adaptive characteristics are analyzed, the Lenovo's co-evolution ability is studied, and reach out its advantages and disadvantages during development process, pieces of advice for Lenovo's further development are proposed.
