With the global population expanding, resources shortage, environment pollution, ecology deterioration, and the needs of nations'development, limited resources tolerance and weak ecological environment become increasingly keen-edged. The development of land use has been against the ecological rules, and the unbalance of the land ecology, such as soil and water loss, desertification, salinization, contaminated soil, and grassland degeneration etc, which form a big threat in the front of the survival and sustainable development of human beings. It goes without saying that the traditional model of land use cannot meet the needs of current development. Thereby, ecological land use which should be focused on emphasizes the rules of ecology, protection of land, and integration of the interests of ecology, economics, and society.By means of comparison of status of land use in United State and China, this paper embraced A. the analysis land classification, ecological land classification, and case study of ecological landscaping in the U.S.A.; B. based on the theories of ecological land use, the purposes, and end-use, the guidelines of ecological land use in American and the corresponding methods of sustainable development of land-use was highlighted; and C. the theories of land function and land protection, and plus two case studies—the farm land protection in China and Natural park land protection in the U.S.A.Following findings can be researched:①Theories of ecology should be applied in land classification in China in order to achieve the integration of the interests of ecology, economics, and society.②Establishment of laws and policies of land market is required, which can modify the system of land market, maximize the interests of public and private, and attain the optimal usage of land. Meanwhile, the purposes, methods, and steps of land-use should be clarified to the public in order to activate the initiative of participation.③The modification of land management should be sped up. And a set of unified policies and laws of land management will do benefit for the exploration and usage of land resources and management.④Establishment of authority in land-use planning is vital to reinforce the cooperation of superior and subordinate departments, prevent the deviation between isolated planning and changeable reality, and emphasize the rationality of procedure planning.
