EPC turn-key mode prevails in the construction industry around the world for its benefits in shorter period, lower capital cost and less disputes. During the execution of EPC projects, the engineering management is of extreme importance to the projects'quality, time and cost. This thesis aims to organize and execute effectively the EPC projects by maximizing the function of the engineering teams, to implement effectively the control of engineering deliverables, to complete the key design/engineering activities as per milestone schedule and to advance the EPC projects'engineering level and ability of the domestic contractors in the international market.Based on the former studies of EPC projects, this thesis carried on the analysis of EPC projects'engineering, the theories of Value Engineering and Constructability, and on the basis of these analyses, this thesis firstly analyzed the EPC projects'engineering process, procedure and corresponding problems. Thereafter, engineering management was set forth for the different engineering stages in EPC projects, i.e. process design, basic design, and detailed engineeirng. At the end of this thesis, the production of engineering requisition (ER) and review of vendor drawings were discussed further, which concluded that it is necessary and feasible to make the production of engineering requisitions be an integral part of engineering works and be integrated into the engineering procedure in order to achieve the success of EPC projects. The thesis makes the use of the system analysis and theory/positivism research method to bring forward the feasible engineering management strategies and methodologies with realistic uses for the domestic EPC contractors in the petroleum and petrochemical industries.
