Engineering Management In EPC Projects Of Shell

EPC turn-key mode prevails in the construction industry around the world for its benefits in shorter period, lower capital cost and less disputes. During the execution of EPC projects, the engineering management is of extreme importance to the projects'quality, time and cost. Recently more and more EPC projects have appeared in construction market. But domestic construction corporations'contracting ability and management level don't adapt to the requirement of EPC projects yet. To adapt to the development of construction market, domestic construction corporations must improve their management. Design management is the key of EPC project management, good design management can guarantee the success of the project.Based on the former studies of EPC projects, the theories of Value Engineering and Constructability, and on the basis of these analyses, use Game Theory to analyze engineering management of the inviting and biding. The thesis analyzes the main design organization planning and design control of EPC projects, also discusses the key points of schedule control, cost control and quality control on project design during bid phase and execution phase. The thesis also puts forward EPC design management strategies separately for design-main general contractor and construction-main contractor. At the end of the thesis, according to the Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) project of Shell ( Zhuhai ) Lubricants , point out the advanced experience from organization planning, design control and design management strategies.The thesis makes the use of the system analysis and theory/positivism research method to bring forward the feasible engineering management strategies and methodologies with realistic uses for the domestic EPC contractors in the petroleum and petrochemical industries.
