Influencing Factor Analysis On The International Competitiveness Of Guangdong's Mechanical And Electrical Products

Since 1985, Guangdong's Mechanical and Electrical Products have ranked the first place in all Guangdong's export products for 17 years, which have greatly contributed to economic and trade development of Guangdong and China. But in recent years, the prices of raw materials are quickly rising. The number of migrant workers is decreasing. And the policies are rectified. Plus there are more trade protections and frictions. Guangdong's Mechanical and Electrical Products, which mainly gain the profits of processing from rough process, low additional value and product prices in the international market, face great crisis. It is urgent to improve the international competitiveness of Guangdong's Mechanical and Electrical Products.This paper studies the international competitiveness of Guangdong's Mechanical and Electrical Products mainly from three aspects, including the export status quo, revealed indices of international competitiveness, and the influencing factors. It starts from the characteristics of Guangdong's Mechanical and Electrical Products in the aspects of scale, product structure, market, trade manner and company's type. Combined with field survey, there are analysis on the problems of Guangdong's Mechanical and Electrical Products at the facets of technology, brand, oversea promotion, product structure and export order. The recent seven years' export data of six export countries or area in Mechanical and Electrical Products were selected for comparison, by means of revealed comparative advantage index, trade competitive power index, and international market share. This study shows that the international competitiveness of Guangdong's Mechanical and Electrical Products was weak in 2001,but has been improved a lot since China's entrance to WTO with the result of more open market and more fierce competition. Then by factor analysis approach, conclusion comes that asset, science and technology are key factors that influence the international competitiveness of Guangdong's Mechanical and Electrical Products. Also macro and micro advices with pertinence are given.
