With the development of the management practice, performance management has become an effective tool to promote its managing ability and achievements for many successful companies. An effective performance management system can decompose the strategies of the company by levels, passing them to every staff starting from the top, so as the staff can have a deep understanding of the relations of his post with the strategies of the company. When an performance year is finished, a certain method will be made to evaluate the work of each post, to combine the result with the salary system, and to make the staff work harder, and realize the value promotion of both the company and the staff.China Life Insurance Company Hunan Branch was a national enterprise and rapidly entered the stock market after it went private, which kept its performance management in a poor and weak stage. Facing the increasingly serious competitive situation, the performance management can not meet the needs of the business development and the market as well, therefore it fails to reach its goals of encouraging the staff, improving the work performance, and realizing its strategies.Through a deep analysis of the current situation of the performance management, existing problems in the company, and the actual requirement of the enterprise strategy to the performance management, combining with all kinds of performance evaluating methods, the analysis and study of the index , this article has made the basic framework of developing its performance management system for the company, designed a decomposable key performance index system which takes the aims as its direction, established the basic procedures and methods which fits the efficiencies from the enterprise strategies to the sections as well as the individuals; made the plans for the effective application of the performance result. In the end, it offers its ideas on how to carry out the insurance measures, analyzed the factors which should be grasped during the process, and predicted the possible effects caused thereafter.By the ways of interview, questionnaire, etc., this article has made an investigation on the current performance management situations of China Life Insurance Hunan Branch. By the analysis, it has found that there exists the problems in the present judge system, like the performance management which is irrelevant to the strategies of the company; lacking a systematic working analysis; not formed a scientific system for the performance evaluation; the effort of the staff can't correspond to the expectation of the company; not had a clear division to the judge responsibility subjects. To solve the above problems, the author suggests to establish a key performance index system which takes the aims as its directions, and regards establishing performance evaluation system design as the key contents of carrying out the performance management.This article is a demonstrative study on the performance management system of China Life Insurance Hunan Branch, the method of solving the current problems based on the reality of the company. The plans it has designed offer effective measures to solve the problems existing in the performance management of the company.
