Manufacturing industry is the cornerstone for one country or one region's economic prosperity and the main force to promote economic development. The nation without manufacturing capacity is one that doesn't have competitive advantage. Based on the analysis and evaluation model of the international competitiveness of manufacturing industry, this thesis analyzes the reality of the international competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing industry from the aspects of centralization, R&D, brand and capacity of entrepreneur by researching literature, statistics data, analyzing cases, international comparison, combining induction and deduction, and so on. It concludes that the international competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing industry is low; many factors restrict its development; the government plays an important role in it. From the analysis, this thesis explores the causes for the lower international competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing industry, and presents the enhancing pathway of the international competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing industry accordingly from inefficient government intervention, high administrative barriers, weak self-organizing market, imperfect policies and regulations, and the shortage of public services.In theory, considering government behavior, this thesis is to expand and deepen the existing competitiveness theory through researching the international competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing industry from Economics, Public Management, Management Science, Law, Sociology, etc. In application, the study results will provide a basis for Chinese governmental decision-making in system and policy design to enhance the international competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing industry. And meanwhile this paper presents several suggestions which are, to some degree, operational for Chinese enterprises faced with global competition in Post-WTO era on how to choose the competitive strategies suitable for their own.
