After the separation of power plants from power networks, power grid corporations take the responsibility for operation safety and stability of power system. Nowadays, increasing the value difference between load peak and load valley has become the great problem of safety operation for large power grids. How to planning peaking plant based on the power resource and adopting management mode of peaking plant is the important issue that need power grid corporations pay attention. In recent years, with the rapidly increasing of power load and the enlarging of value difference between load peak and load valley, the issue that how to planning peaking plant of Chongqing power system has become more and more prominent. Therefore, it is significant of studying deeply on the peaking plant planning for Chongqing power system.Based on the electricity demand and load characteristic of Chongqing power system, the peaking plants'adjusting mode and its'economic is pilot studied in this paper. Then, through synthesizing the main management mode of domestic peaking plants and analyzing the adaptability of peaking plant management mode, the conclusion and suggestion about Chongqing power system is presented in this paper. In a word, the main content is as following:(1) Through analyzing the characteristic of power plant and power load, the main problem about peaking plant in Chongqing power system is presented. At the same time, the function and its'economic of peaking mode is briefly analyzed and compared.(2) The software containing GESP power plant planning model is applied to Chongqing power system expansion planning. Considering the condition of Chongqing power system, the demand and mode of peaking is optimized. Consequently, the demand and the installed capacity of Chongqing power system peaking plant for various load forecast schemes is put forward in this paper.(3) Given an example with Shisanlin hydropower generator, Guangzhou hydropower generator, Tianhuangping hydropower generator and Hubei Tiantang hydropower generator, the adaptability for four management mode of domestic peaking plants is analyzed. Moreover, based on the condition of Chongqing and middle China power market, the acceptable management mode for peaking plants in Chongqing power system is researched in order to increasing the economic of peaking plant and satisfying the reliability of operation in Chongqing power system. Lastly, it is useful of the conclusion and suggestion that present in this paper for Chongqing power system peaking planning.
