As the banking industry of China opening to foreign capital, the competition of the market will become more intense, and at present the most direct competition is around the personal quality customers in the area of retail banking business. As the world's largest 1000 banks announced annually by "Banker" magazine, American commercial banks maintain advantage relying on the strong growth of retail banking business, such as Citigroup and other large banking group, of which the retail operating income contribute more than 60% of the total.The success of western commercial banks in global retail banking market is not overnight, and they also went through a difficult transformation. This transformation was originated in Business Process Reengineering (BPR). The development of financial innovation theory brought BPR of banks to a climax. The Western commercial banks conducted BPR one after another. By analyzing and absorb the successful experience from the Western commercial banks of the retail banking business, we recognize that BPR is the only way out to the retail banks of China.Based on the integration of Business Process Reengineering Theory, Financial Innovation Theory, Banking Business Process Reengineering Theory and Organizational Change Theory, after studying both domestic and foreign commercial banks of retail banking BPR cases, this thesis advances BPR programs of retail banking in different types of China's commercial banks, from strategic processes, operational processes and enabling processes of three perspectives, and the ten steps of retail banking business process reengineering. We hope that through Business Process Reengineering, the following major changes will be happened to retail banks of China: clear strategy and market position, concerning about customer demand, diversified sales network, the quality of services improved significantly, cost reduced obviously, and organization more efficient.
