| Marital custom is a typical kind of folklore, which is also very important in people's common life. Most of them follow the ancient principle: When a married man, when the married woman.This paper is mainly concentrated on marital custom of the Beiting country in Jimsar, which is the old haunt full of thousand year's history of Xinjiang's land reclamation and also the heartland of Chinese culture of the north root of the East Tianshan Mountain areas. Most of the local people moved to this area without orders of administration and have lived there for generations. Due to various reasons, there is less attention paid to the living situation of local Han people, not even mention the research on the marital custom. Therefore, this paper will discuss the local marriage custom culture in Beiting country.The paper comprises five parts:Part I is the general situation of the geography and history of the chosen field. This part contains the geography and history background of Beiting country and Jimsar county.Part II gives the sources of the local Han people and analyses the local culture from the view of folk language.Part III introduces the marriage patterns of Jimsar in the past and the basic situation of local marital custom through examples of engagement, wedding, divorce and remarriage in the present age.Part IV is mainly concentrated on the social-cultural analyses of local marital custom. Analyses may come from three different views: the intermarriage radius of Beiting country, the choice of the wedding day and the social network in the wedding.Part V, the conclusion, comments on the characters of the local marital customs and tries to summarize it in the whole culture. |
