This study explores the development of China-Australia energy cooperation during the period between 1996 and 2007.The paper starts with an introductory chapter, describing the energy supply and demand in both nations. In the main body of the paper, energy cooperation is examined from two angles: energy resources trade and energy technology cooperation, after which the paper wraps up and summarizes general features, benefits and obstacles of the cooperation and suggests future research directions. The thesis consists of four chapters with Chapter 1 as a general introduction, Chapters 2 to 3 as the main body and Chapter 4 as the conclusion. The summaries of the four chapters are as follows:Chapter 1 is an introduction in which the issue is introduced, and the objectives, methodology as well as background information are provided.Chapter 2 looks into energy resources trade of four different commodities: coal, liquefied natural gas (LNG), uranium ore and crude oil, with a focus on LNG and uranium ore.Chapter 3 deals with another aspect of bilateral energy cooperation: energy technology. This chapter first states the bases for such cooperation and then assesses bilateral energy technology cooperation from two different perspectives: the bilateral vs multilateral perspective and the clean-coal vs renewable-energy perspective. The last chapter summarizes the general features and benefits of bilateral energy cooperation over the past decade and concludes with future research directions.
