A Study On Cultivated Land Use Change And Its Driving Force Of Yueyang City

As an important land use type, cultivated land is the sources of human's food and clothes and it is also the important material foundation for human's survival and development. Cultivated land use change and protection have become the important components of land-use/land-cover change. Strengthening the research of cultivated land use change and analyzing the driving factors which affect changes of cultivated land use are of great benefit to use the arable land reasonably. Meanwhile these will ensure the regional food security and help advance the development of a harmonious society.Chosing one of the oil and grain bases——Yueyang City as the research object, this paper carries out a dynamic study on the cultivated land use change and driving forces in Yueyang City during the period of 1997-2005,based on the data of detailed land-use and the social-economic statistics from 1997 to 2005. The results are listed as follows:(1) From 1997 to 2005, the cultivated land in Yueyang City decreased from 381847.28hm~2 to 360187.76hm~2 , with a net reduction of 21659.52hm~2. These changes exihibit the trend of fluctuant reduction, and undergo three phases which are reduction, slow increase, and fast reduction respectively. The annual variance ratio of cultivated land use was -0.66% from 1997 to 1999, 0.13% from 1999 to 2001 and -1.44% from 2001 to 2005. There is obvious difference among various regions The relative change rate of the cultivated land use is low in regions with both high and low social and economic development level ,and the rate is high in regions with moderate social and economic development level. Yueyang County is the highest, whose rate is 1.55, while Junshan District with a rate of 0.47, is the lowest.With the help of both RS and GIS, we found that the center of the cultivated land use in Yueyang City moved 0.26km and 33°52' toward the southeast. (2) There are not only natural factors that drive the cultivated land use change, but the social and economic factors are more important. With SPSS statistical software, the study has analyzed the social-economic driving factors which impact cultivated land use change of Yueyang City through factor analysis. The main social and economic driving factors that affect cultivated land use change are population growth, social and economic development, structural readjustment in agriculture, national policies. Then we apply the multivariate linear regression to these main factors and get the cultivated land driving forces linear regression model.
