With the improvement of living standards, people are increasingly in pursuit of individualized products and services, which is putting mass production mode into a difficult situation. Under this circumstance, mass customization production mode comes into being. While not compromising the economic benefits of the enterprises, this brand new production mode also meets clients' needs for individualization. Therefore, it will become a natural trend in the development of production mode of the enterprises. The present paper provides a series of research on the module creation in the course of mass customization design, optimal evaluation of modules and MC-targeted modularization configuration design. The specific contents of the paper are as follows:1. Setting forth the research background and basis of the paper, discussing the development and research object of the mass customization and modularization design, introducing the new subjects in the product module design in mass customization and presenting the research significance of the research subject and the contents of the paper.2. Putting forward the module creation method in the course of product design, utilizing the hierarchical analysis method in describing the relations among components, thus establishing the composite fuzzy matter element model of components, establishing correlative composite fuzzy matter element to solve the issues in the module creation and conducting analysis with real examples.3. Putting forward the evaluation method of the optimal modular division plan based on fuzzy matter element, realizing the optimal evaluation with weighted generalized Hamming distance formula.4. Putting forward the MC-targeted modularized product configuration design method, utilizing the diffuseness of the matter element to identify expected matter element or its closest matter element from the existing matter element in products and verifying the feasibility and effectiveness of this method with real examples. The present paper employs the matter element and extensibility theory in the MC-based modularization design for the solutions to problems in module creation and configuration and for the research of new areas of application of the matter element theory.
