The Research Of Automotive Product Development Base On Module Concept

Originally, the module concept was developed in the computer manufacture industry, now it becomes more and more popular to solve complex problems in the industry such as automotive. Driven by the module design concept, the vehicle OEMs spend most of their resource to develop their key module designed vehicle platform, and subcontract the other R&D activities to suppliers, this speed up the new vehicle model launching on the market as well the technology evolution in vehicle industry. On the other side, the competition among vehicle OEMs are getting much more intensive, in order to get more market share the vehicle OEMs are pursuing ways to shorten their vehicle development schedule and develop different functions to meet different customer requirements.In this paper, firstly, it analyzed the current automotive market trend and the main competition on China market, based on the analysis, it points out the necessary condition that the vehicle OEMs who want to win more market share: cost reduction, product function differentiation. Module design conception is the suitable solution to reduce the new vehicle model launching time, improve the vehicle quality and match the customer requests.On the basis of in-depth analysis of the module design theory, this paper presents optimized solutions for the company organization, the vehicle development procedure and the key steps in the module design process for vehicle components development. It proposed the methodology of module design evaluation, and the life cycle management for modules.Combine with engineering applications in actual cases, in this paper it analyze the development of alternator module and the results in R&D, purchase aspect, which prove the advantage of automotive component module development concept.Finally, it summarizes the main theoretical basis and modular design method benefit for the company: reduce overall cost for components purchasing and development, improve the R&D efficiency which rely on two indicators: Cost reduction by using module design, output compare to input during module development.
