With the completion of the new 1.5 million stainless steel systems engineering, TAIYUAN IRON&STEEL (GROUP) COMPANY LTD (hereinafter referred to as Tisco) becomes a super-large steel producer with the greatest capacity and most advanced equipment. The greatest capacity doesn't mean Tisco is the most strongest. So continuously upgrading the integrated competitive power which put the quality in the center is the most challenging task Tisco will face. Tisco also puts forward"refinement, informatization, internationalization"requirements in which upgrading Tisco management refinement level becomes the core requirement. In order to set up scientific and sustained improvement system as well as realize the"refinement"target, from the second half year of 2004, Tisco inducted six sigma management methods. The conception of"refinement"is six sigma philosophy and the target of"refinement"is six sigma level. So method of realization of"refinement"is the designation and improvement of six sigma.This article especially introduced the six sigma operation improvement method as a whole set of system as well as the function of upgrading customs satisfaction during continuous improvement of Tisco operation flow. This article also expanded Tisco method and effect in advancing six sigma improvement by introducing six sigma application in improvement of Tisco iron-making plant sinter quality. The key point of this article is to solve a problem how to improve iron-making plant No.1 sintering area sinter ISO drum strength. The process of the whole topic research goes by the six sigma DMAIC flow. The key quality speciality CTQ influencing custom satisfaction is firstly decided and the problem is defined according to the CTQ. Then some measurement analysis will be made and the key factor is chosen. Finally through the scientific experimental design, the adaptation level of all kinds of factors influencing the sinter ISO drum strength can be found rapidly and accurately. Then the key factor will be controlled by adopting a great many of statistical process control (SPC) and realize the target of quality improvement. In the end, some problems met during Tisco ISO9000 quality system work and methods of resolution are introduced in detail in this article. This article also expanded the significance of perfecting quality management system and gave some explanation for general quality management. The six sigma improvement methods is expanded emphatically in this article which penetrated in Tisco superexcellent pursuit of product quality and is the drive source propelling the quality work moving forward rapidly as well as has important guiding significance for Tisco effective quality improvement work in the future.
