The Research On The Location Of Multinational Corporations' Foreign R&D Investment In China

R&D activities is a core function of Transnational Corporations (TNCs), it takes a great part in global strategy of TNCs. For a long time, R&D activities of TNCs is always undergoing in their home country. With the globalization of TNCs and in the face of an increasingly intense international competitive environment, TNCs changed their traditionally ways of R&D activities, they reposition their R&D worldwide according the human capital, technical resources and technical facilities of host country. Meanwhile, with the huge market, quick economy development and the resources owned, China became an important host country to attract overseas R&D investment of TNCs.However; the regional distribution of TNCs's R&D investment in China is quite unbalanced. So study on the location character of TNCs's R&D investment in China, then find out the main factors that influences the decision of TNCs's R&D investment, Its meaningful both in theory and in practice, for it gives supporting to the government and home corporations to attract more R&D investment.This thesis begins with the theory introduction of TNCs's overseas R&D investment; it includes the theory basis and the location choice theory of TNCs's overseas R&D investment. Then thesis analyzed the motivation and trend of TNCs's overseas R&D investment. This part is the theory basis of phenomena describes and practice studies.At the basis of TNCs's overseas R&D investment theory, the thesis analyzed TNCs's R&D investment in China. To analyzed the characteristics of TNCs's R&D investment in China, from the aspects of the development history, organization forms, scale and differential in fields. The thesis also analyzed the distribution characteristics of TNCs's R&D investment in China.Studying on the distribution of TNCs's R&D investment in China in practice is the most important part of this thesis. Firstly, from the angle of regional investment environment, though econometrics model, thesis analyzed main factors that influences the decision of TNCs's R&D investment in detail. Find out that FDI scales and R&D resources of China is the decisive factors that influence TNCs's R&D institutions location layout; Communications, other infrastructure conditions, the level of scientific research and the level of intellectual property protection are also important factors affecting TNCs's R&D institutions location layout. At last, by the results of the study in practice and the influences of TNCs's R&D investment, thesis gives advice to government and home corporations to attract R&D investment effectively.
