In the era of knowledge-driven economy with rapid scientific and technological revolution, complex industrial techniques and inceasing global competition, technological capacity has become one of the fundamental factors for enterprises to self-develop and achieve long-term competitive advanteges. Therefore, the study on the technology gap between enterprises is the premise for enterprises to make effective technological development strategies against their weaknesses, which is of great significance for them to improve the technological capacity and enhence overall competitiveness.Based on above background, this study focuses on the assessment of technology gap between enterprises, sets up an assessment model for technology gap and introduces a feasible assessment indicator system as well as the assessing method, aiming at providing the enterprise with direction and decision-making guidance in order to analyze its position in the industry, and set up appropriate technological development strategies with higher technological capacity.Firstly, this paper gives out a review of relevant theories with regard to technology gap, technological capacity and innovation. Combined with the result of a survey, a model is built to assess the technology gap between enterprises, which is to identify the one and only curve referring to a company's technological capacity in a plane, taking the company's current technological level as vertical ordinate, while its innovative capability as horizontal ordinate, to assess the technological gap, consequently, to explore the actual differences of technological capacity between enterprises on the same technological capacity curve.Secondly, on the basis of dual-gap model, an assessment indicator system of technology gap between enterprises is founded, which includes the enterprise current technological level assessment indicator system composed of 4 first-class indicators and 8 secondary-class indicators, and enterprise innovative capability assessment indicator system composed of 6 first-class indicators and 21 secondary-class indicators. Both of the indicator systems are composed of quantitative indicators and qualitative indicators with their meanings adopted by the international and domestic standards or recognized concepts, scientific and applicable. Finally, a comprehensive assessing method of technology gap is explored. The weight of each indicator is determined by the improved AHP model using the result from the survey and interview with the relevant experts and managers, which gives out a comprehensive assessment model of technology gap between enterprises.
