It is of great necessity for decision making scientifically, which means the managers of enterprises must make full use of historical business data to obtain information to support more fact based decision. Port industry accumulated vast ocean of data during the operation process with information technology. Therefore, it's an urgent problem to develop and utilize the port historical production data. Traditional database management system can not fulfill more decision and analysis demand of port corporations. With the appearing of data warehouse technology, enterprises can make better employment of the original data. The foundation of port production data warehouse offers integrative, analysis oriented environment for port corporations. Meanwhile, it also lays a solid foundation for relative department of port enterprises to make decision more accurately.This dissertation is put forward by the urgent decision demand of port enterprises, based on comprehensive of port production business and understanding of port OLTP data, devotes itself to design and realize the port production data warehouse. Throughout this dissertation, the logical and physical models of port production data warehouse are mainly designed. Meanwhile, data transfer between different databases is carried out with the usage of ETL tools. Finally, the prototype system of port production data warehouse is presented in the end. The main research work and innovations are shown as follows:Firstly, the research on design method of port production data warehouse is made at the beginning, and the analysis of port cargo transfer operation and dock importation procedure has also been made. Afterward, the architecture of port production data warehouse has been established and the boundary of system has been defined, which helps to make sure the central subject fields as well as their fact tables.Secondly, the bus matrix of port production data warehouse is obtained. Accordingly, the designing research of shared dimensional table in port production data warehouse is put in practice. Besides, the fact table of port cargo transfer subject is projected in detail for instance, which engenders a definite logical star schema accords with cargo transport subject.Thirdly, the physical model schema of port production data warehouse is achieved in line with logical model design according to port original data source. The data storage strategy, storage structure, index strategy are given out. Furthermore, there is also an explanation of data granularity and partition. Finally, the port production data warehouse is actualized in the last phase. A data exhibition of the accomplished data warehouse is made with the employment of possessed data warehouse, including customization demands designing and multidimensional data cube's OLAP analysis. What's more, data mining based upon port production data warehouse is studied primarily.Through the combination of the above theoretical research and the realization of the model design, the following conclusions can be drawn: Theoretically, data warehouse and OLAP can be applied to the port industry, facilitating to assist managers make scientific decisions. The realization and simple application of port production data warehouse proves that the construction of data warehouse can find its application in the port industry. The last but not least, it provides valuable information for them indeed.This dissertation has certain reference value not only for the theory of data warehouse design and implementation but also for the practical construction of port production data warehouse.
