The mutton industry occupies an important position in the whole livestock. Mutton production contributes a lot to food structure adjustment, food quality improvement, farmers'income increase, as well as restructuring our country's livestock production. As a branch of livestock industry, mutton production has grown up as a prosperous industry in Xinjiang. In this article, the author mainly takes the method of standardized analysis and concrete analysis, quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, comparative analysis, factor analysis. Based on Michael E·Porter's diamond theory, the author builds up the system to examine the major factors affecting competitiveness of Xinjiang mutton industry.At first, this thesis discuss on the industry competitiveness theories, Michael E·Porter's diamond theory, and find out the major factors affecting competitiveness of Xinjiang mutton sheep industry. Secondly, this dissertation describes the condition of Xinjiang mutton sheep industry from the two aspects, production and consumption. The competitiveness of Xinjiang mutton sheep industry has also been discussed from four aspects: the productivity level, cost, price, quality and the market occupied rate. Thirdly, the author systematically examines the main factor from the perspectives of production inputs, relative industry, dimensions and management organizations, governmental functions and the market demand.Finally, based on the systematically analysis according to the SWOT model, this article put forward the countermeasure and suggestion of promoting the competitiveness of Xinjiang mutton industry.
