Research Of The Port's Customer Market Based On Yantian International Container Terminals

With the fast development of the container transportation in recent two decades, many ports fixed the container operation as their main business. How to increase the service consciousness and provide more circumspect and satisfied service for shipping lines in order to attract more carriers became the key of whether the port can keep steady and fast development in the heavy competition. This also emphasizes the importance of port market segment as well as providing more tailor-made service according to different customers' need and preference.So, the research took the world biggest single container terminals, Yantian International Container Terminals (YICT), as the sample to do the in-depth analysis about the container terminals' direct customer market. This thesis provided a container terminals' service system as well as constructed a model for analysis and evaluation based on a wide reading of the literatures and field survey. Then analyzed the feedback from YICT's direct customers through questionnaire survey by SPSS statistic software, gave the suggestion for improving service and quickening development of the container terminals, also afforded a meaningful model for more scientific analysis about container terminals' customer market.The innovative points in the thesis are: (1) through reading literatures, gave a more comprehensive and systemic model for researching and analyzing container terminals' customer market on the basis of the existing market segment concept. (2) in terms of the researching methodology, the thesis used several statistic methods as academic tools, meanwhile applied advanced statistic software to practical analysis in order to make up the limitation in the existing research finding.
